Most people think of Lyme when they hear the word TICK. In addition to Lyme, there are several other debilitating diseases caused by a tick, including Babesiosis, Ehrlichiosis, and Bartonella. And yes, North Carolina is infested with ticks that carry the diseases. Learn more by joining us, at the date, time and location above, to view the award winning documentary “Under Our Skin” and the sequel “Under Our Skin 2: Emergence”. Our mission is to spread awareness and educate our community on tick-borne illnesses and prevention.
Lyme disease can be misdiagnosed as many different disease's including ALS, MS, Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue, Alzheimer's, Lupus, Parkinson’s, Psychiatric disorders among others. Don’t miss the signs; symptoms include restless legs, insomnia, anxiety, depression, night sweats, panic attacks, memory loss, joint/muscle pain, persistent headaches and more. If left untreated Lyme can cause a lifetime of needless pain and suffering, and in some cases death. Lyme can be especially hard on children if not diagnosed early, and treated properly, often resulting in lifetime disabilities.
In 2013, the CDC increased the estimated number of new Lyme disease cases to 300,000 in the U.S, annually. Originally, the CDC had estimated 30,000 new cases. There are, currently, five North Carolina counties classified as Lyme endemic and another eleven counties pending an endemic status.
